Natsuko prided herself on her home-cooked meals. Her husband, a dedicated salaryman, always came home famished after long hours at the office. Lately, however, she’d noticed a change in his demeanor. He mentioned their boss, Mr. Watanabe, seemed particularly downcast after losing his wife.

One evening, as they shared a simple dinner, Natsuko had an idea. “Hiro,” she began, “Mr. Watanabe must be struggling alone. What if we invited him over for dinner sometime?”

Hiro paused, surprised. “Invited the boss for dinner? That’s unconventional, don’t you think?”

“Think of it as looking after company morale,” Natsuko chuckled. “Besides, Mr. Watanabe probably misses a good home-cooked meal.”

Hiro, ever the loyal employee, agreed. As a gesture of goodwill, they invited Mr. Watanabe over for dinner the following week.

The evening was filled with warm conversation as Natsuko’s delicious food graced the table. Mr. Watanabe, initially hesitant, relaxed and shared stories of his late wife, her love for music, and her own culinary skills. They learned he was practically living off takeout and instant meals.

Touched by his story, Natsuko made a bold suggestion. “Mr. Watanabe, perhaps you’d like to join us for a home-cooked meal once a month? It would be a pleasure to cook for you.”

Mr. Watanabe’s face lit up. “That’s incredibly kind of you, Natsuko-san. I wouldn’t want to impose.”

“Nonsense,” Hiro chimed in. “Think of it as a team-building exercise outside the office.”
